How To Attract Birds To Your Backyard
Do you want birds to be attracted to your yard? That’s good. It’s easy – as long as you give them what they need, they’ll come.
Food is the first thing birds need. Your birds can be provided with food with a simple bird feeder mixed with seed or if you go for something more complex, you can attract more species of birds.
Finches and other species of birds will be attracted by thistle seed. You may also not want to put out special foods or suet in order to attract more birds. You can put out an oriole feeder and a hummingbird during the summer.
Another important thing that birds need is shelter. Predators like hawks and cats are out to catch them. Unsightly brush piles would even be built by some people just to shelter birds. Planting a flower bed filled with some evergreen bushes, ground cover, etc. would be an easier solution. It will look great, and provide a haven for birds.
You can also offer a bath to birds. You can either provide them with a dust bath or a typical water bird bath. As simple as a patch of sand underneath the bird feeder is a dust bath. Nothing fancy is required!
Last, but not least, you’ll probably want to provide your birds with nesting houses – a safe, dry place for the to raise their families! The houses you choose should be appropriate for the species of birds you have nesting in your yard. You may even get to watch a pair of birds raise their young if you’re lucky enough.
If you want birds to come to your yard so you can enjoy their colorful beauty, give them what they want or need.
