Three Effective Steps For Helping Your Baby Get To Sleep At Night

Any experienced parent will tell you that surviving through the first year of your baby’s life can be the one of the most stressful times in your life as you forego your much needed beauty sleep and slowly crawl toward the brink of insanity. Seriously though, successfully getting baby to sleep through the night takes experimenting with a lot of ways as sleep habits are more attitudinal-meaning inborn rather than a reflection of the type of parenting. The following are steps to help you in getting your baby to sleep through the night:

1) Understand all about the circadian rhythm of infants. As they say, knowledge is power and knowing what the circadian rhythm is all about will not only help you plan your strategies effectively, but aid you in understanding what is and isn’t normal in getting baby to sleep through the night. A zero to six months old baby will sleep for four hours and awaken after; so when your baby sleeps five hours through the night, you know you have been successful in your endeavors.

2) Establish a daily routine. This will not only result in effectively getting baby to sleep through the night but makes for a lifetime of healthy sleeping habits. Keep your baby active throughout the day so that at night, he or she will be tired enough to welcome the five-hour sleep. Make sure also to bond with your baby so that he or she will trust that you are always there for him or her enough to have uninterrupted sleeping time.

3) Maintain a guiding role. This will only take the first two to three months of your baby’s life, and after this watchful and vigilant period is the reward of getting baby to sleep through the night. After dimming the lights in your baby’s room at a specific and maintained sleeping time, remain in the room but not visible to your baby until he or she falls asleep. Make sure that your baby is sound asleep when you leave the room. Keep your baby’s room as close to yours as possible so that when he or she awakens, you are there to provide for the needs.
