The Identity Of Jesus In Modern Day Society
Jesus Christ (Jesus of Nazareth) is believed to be, he actually is, the stem behind the Christianity religion. Without him, the religion would not have probably been what it is today, the most widely spread in the world. But what is the identity of Jesus Christ in our age of global cities? This paper, seeks to answer this question. In addressing this issue, the paper will look into the manner in which Jesus is portrayed in modern society and his significance in the world today.
The society today is one that questions a lot and seeks answers where they seem to find none. They attempt to find an explanation for the many things that have been documented but are not fully substanciated.In this light, it is worth noting that there are many ways in which Jesus is identified and looked at in the society today. There are many ways views towards the existence of Jesus and his significance in the world today. This paper will look at some of them.
The paper will then be concluded by giving an opinion (a position) on the ideas that have been put forward.
What then is the identity of Jesus Christ in our age of global cities?
As mentioned earlier, the society today is one that questions many things that have not been explained. It is also one with people who strictly adhere to religious teachings. For this reasons, the identity of Jesus in this age of global cities is diverse and distinct. In my opinion, there are two main identities of Jesus in this age. There are those who view Jesus as the messiah as prophesized in the old testament, even referring to him as the only son of god (John, 3:16). There are those, on the hand, who view Jesus as a symbolic god created to explain and spread religion to other people in the world just like the ancient pagan gods who had been created.
The messiah
This is the main identity of Jesus in the world today. As mentioned in the first paragraph, Jesus is the stem of the Christian faith. Today, Christianity is the most widely spread religion among all the others that exist. With all the followers of the faith that are currently in the world, it is logical to put forward the claim that they all believe that jesus is indeed the prophesized and long awaited for messiah. In this light, people adhere to the teachings of the New Testament concerning the manner in which to live and how to enter the kingdom of god.
One fact that is however contradictory in the faith, and also in other religions, up to date is that nobody seems to be sure about the identity of Jesus and who he really was. Owing to this fact, not many people are sure of how to view Christ and how to take the teachings. For instance, in the Christian faith, Jehovah’s Witnesses teach that Jesus was really the Archangel Michael. Other Christians, on the other hand, believe that Angel Michael is different from Jesus and therefore it is Jesus who should be worshipped.
