PU syndicate not succeed to approve budget
Doubt prevails over the conduct of the annual meeting of Patna University (PU) senate scheduled to be held on January 22 due to non-approval of the university s draft budget for the next financial year by the syndicate.
The PU syndicate, at its meeting held here on Wednesday under the chairmanship of vice-chancellor Shyam Lal, discussed the estimated Rs 258 crore deficit budgets, but could not approve it in view of the non-inclusion of the revised pay of some teachers and non-teaching staff. Some vocal members of the syndicate raised the issue of non-revision of pay of some university staff and demanded that the budget must include their revised salary.
The VC opined that for inclusion of the left-out cases, the statutory pay fixation committee would have to meet again and the revised pay approved by the committee would have to be cleared by the syndicate. This whole exercise would have to be completed before the proposed meeting of the senate.
Insiders say that in case of revision of the university s budget, it would not be possible to hold the meeting of the senate on January 22. The present VC is completing his three-year term on January 24.
PU registrar Manoj Kumar said that the university has not taken any decision on postponement of the senate meeting so far.
