Multicultural Considerations In Today’s Family
People never like what they have in their plate, but praise the food which is kept in someone else’s plate. In the same way you might not like your culture but you praise the culture of some other country. People and mostly teenagers are getting more deflected these days towards other cultures, which they do not know but might create a problem for them as well as for their parents. An Indian woman would never like if she watches her children moving to western culture. Multiculturalism is the acceptance of different cultures for the purpose of diversity (APAonline, 2009). But multiculturalism is creating huge problems in today’s families.
Now day’s, children enter different levels of education system and so are exposed to different people with different cultures. They learn different things from them which might not be acceptable at their home and hence the problem starts. There are various direct as well as indirect methods which affect the family. Now if we take an example of Indian and Western cultures, we analyze that the Indian youth is now not willing to live with their families (Nahari, 2007). Being impressed by the Western culture, they now prefer to live away from their families. Homosexual’s who were very common in the Western culture are slowly becoming common in the Indian culture as well.
Families are most affected from multiculturalism as said by some experts. But women play a major role in their respective families as they are the basic building blocks for any family and play a major role in providing education to their children right from the beginning. They also provide a positive strength to the male counter part. They can easily make their children realize the effects of multiculturalism.
Sometimes a cultural myth of sameness is present in different families (Skinner, 1936). People often fail to distinguish between the very fundamentals of the religion and culture. People often think that all religions are the same with their own culture but they mix this with sameness. Some of the actors which lead to the myth of sameness are as follows:
1. Gurus who are Opportunistic: Some old gurus often seek for the opportunity for huge donations and attract people giving them this myth.
2. Postmodernist: This framework allows people to misinterpret some symbols temporarily, and then sell their work at some high levels.
3. Popular Phobia: It comes directly from the education systems, pushing the people from the same culture into the myth of sameness.
It is often dangerous to assume that every person from a similar culture will exhibit the same characteristics. People apart from their culture have a behavior which actually makes them to either follow their culture or not. You will often realize that people from the same culture have got different values (Suzuki, 2009).
Poverty is a result of some factors like the employment income f the family, parental education, and the size if the family or the family structure. Today there is a high probability that if you are born poor then you will also grow up as a poor, exceptions are always there. It also depends upon the rate at which our society is progressing. Most of the people blame themselves for the cause and does not notice that the actual reason behind this is the structure of the society. People in a society have arranged themselves based on their way of living which is often known as social classes. Now this social class is a part of poverty. The poorer you are the more low class you will be in. Now this social class is affecting the culture at the same time. People say that the poor ones will not pray with them. Why does this happen when both of them are from same culture? We all will have to come out from this myth.
You should always accept the people with their cultures, as they come along your way and that is the only way how you can help build a diverse society which will also be a multicultural society.
