Zoom Kobe 5 Big Stage Sneakers
According to Nike, the Zoom Kobe V was the most successful basketball sneaker in their history. So it should come as no surprise that when the NBA finals rolled around, Kobe Bryant showed up on the court with a shiny new colorway for the Kobe V. Dubbed the Kobe 5 Big Stage edition, the white/metallic gold sneaker was given a warm reception by fans of Kobe’s signature sneaker line. For playoff games held outside of LA, however, Kobe wore a sneaker with a black-based colorway. The sneaker, apparently, proved a good luck charm as the Lakers went on to beat the Celtics, giving the self-dubbed “Black Mamba” his fifth championship ring.
Nike recently released two limited editions of the Kobe 5 Big Stage, Home and Away. The Away version of the Big Stage sneaker features a pearly-white colorway, with metallic gold used in the heel section to enhance the Nike swoosh logo. The upper is decorated with white-on-white number graphics listing Kobe’s career achievements, including his career point total, which is the highest in the history of the Lakers. Nike Flywire is also used in the upper and midsole to ensure the sneaker has minimum weight while providing maximum support.
The Big Stage Away edition was the sneaker that was on Kobe’s feet when he led his teammates to victory against the Celtics in the seventh game of the finals. The low-top sneaker features a black embossed upper enhanced with metallic gold on the heel and the swoosh logo, as well as a white translucent outer sole. As with the Home edition, the upper features black-on-black number graphics detailing Kobe’s career achievements, including 2835 total minutes played and 73 for total games played. Kobe’s Black Mamba logo can also be found on the tongues and outsole of the shoe. Both editions have received an official release and can be bought at outlets such as Niketown LA and House of Hoops at the Beverly Center.
