Of course for many centuries ways of carrying things around have been there. Going all the way
back to the first civilizations to use a monetary system, coin pouches have been needed. But it wasn’t until the early 19th century that things people needed became small enough that wallets or in the beginning purses were needed for more than just money. It was also around this time that the first styles and uses for purses and wallets came into existence. It was also
around this time that more than just one or two small items might be needed with you. This also led to the rise of small purses and bags that eventually became wallets. Money has always been the main thing needed to be carried around, so as the form of currency has changed and differed over the years, so has the form and size of the wallets. Going all the way back to before Christ, there have been pouches for coins. As currency has developed in different generations, so has the pouch turned more into a wallet or purse more similar to what we might see today.
