Standard PS-P61 Corner Side Stapler for QC Collators Review

Collating machines are often combined with an automatic stapler for added convenience and versatility. Standard’s QC Collators are designed to be used in conjunction with the PS-P61 Corner Side Stapler. The combination of the two machines provides a functional device that efficiently collates and staples your documents in one easy step. Here is a closer look at the strengths and weaknesses of the Standard PS-P61 Corner Side Stapler.

Strengths:

  • By itself, this is a substantial machine. It measures 44″ wide by 22.2″ deep by 23″ tall and weighs about 170 pounds. The actual unit is housed in a cabinet designed to sit under the collator for a small footprint.
  • Sheets coming into the stapler can be as small as 7.1 inches by 10.1 inches or as large as 11.8 inches by 17 inches. Paper weights ranging from 16lb bond to 67lb index can be processed by this machine. The most that can be stapled at one time is ten sheets of 67lb index paper.
  • This device staples items from the corner, top, and side, with two staples in the side design. Staple cartridges carry 5000 staples, allowing a decent amount of documents to be produced before the magazine needs to be changed. On the side staple setting, items are processed as fast as 720 sets per hour. The corner setting is faster, creating up to 840 sets per hour. Any of the three settings will work well and simply add to the convenience by letting the user choose their preferred staple position.
  • This stapler is compatible with Standard’s QC collators. That includes the QC-S series as well as the QC-P8 and QC-P10. These in-line machines are excellent for office and in-plant use.
  • Standard guarantees this stapler with a 90 day warranty.

Weaknesses:

  • This stapler is designed for low volume use. While ten sheets stapled together as fast as 840 sets per hour may be more than enough for many offices, companies with higher volumes will prefer a larger, faster machine.
  • This is a very basic machine, it only functions as a stapler. For full functionality, it needs to be used in conjunction with a collator. The two can also be combined with a paper folder to make small booklets. Some businesses may prefer the option of purchasing an all-in-one machine that can perform all the functions necessary for making a booklet. Be sure you know which device will work better for your needs before investing in a machine you may not be happy with.
  • The stapler alone weighs 170 pounds. When you add a collator to the top, it will be a fairly heavy device. Fortunately, the cabinet housing the stapler is mounted on casters so you can easily roll the entire unit from one location to another. We don’t think this will be a problem for most users.

For what the PS-P61 is designed for, it works very well. Offices with a Standard QC collator that need an automatic stapler as well will benefit from the time saved by adding this machine to their business. The convenient cabinet with casters provides a space saving unit that will also save you money in reduced time and manpower. We think this device is a great system to add to your QC collator.
