Resume References
Consider various aspects while giving resume references. Broadly the references can be of following types, personal contacts, business or professional contacts and social contact. Always make sure to inform the people whom you have put as references on your resume for the same. The people can be well prepared and it will be beneficial to you. Another point why it is important is it helps a lot if you are not in touch with each other from a long period.
First it is very important to understand why the prospective employer seeks resume references? The personal contacts are useful as they will provide the information regarding your character in general.
In case of business or professional contacts, have a word with them before putting as reference. Ask them if you can give their cell number, e-mail id etc. The most important is to find out, if he or she prefers to be the reference.
The professional contacts can be any, your boss, colleague, customer etc. If you are providing the business contact, make sure to mention the mode of calling, i.e. Cell phone, office telephone or e-mail etc.
It is mentioned in the resume tips many a times that, the references should be mentioned in proper order, e.g. name, designation, contact information, from how long you know each other etc.
You can mention the social contacts if required. But always remember, unnecessary information, looses the importance though it is special and useful. So be specific as far as resume references are considered.
