Types of Magicians
There are many different types of magicians that you can hire. There are magicians who perform on stage, magicians who perform on the street and those that perform right in front of your eyes. Here are the most popular types of magicians for here:
Illusionist – this used to be one of the most popular types of magic, but it’s a lot more rare nowadays. Illusionists fill big theatres with large props, dancing and normally female assistants. Their magic is normally the most glitzy and glamourous of all magicians, including pretty assistants, loud music and lots of impressive scenery. Illusionists tend to perform in large theatres or venues with stages.
Sleight of Hand Magician – magicians who specialise in performing difficult magic, normally using playing cards. These expert magicians practice for decades to become masters of their art. It’s one of the most difficult of all arts to master and requires true dedication.
Television Magician – a magician who performs magic on television. People like David Blaine, Criss Angel, Derren Brown and so on all perform on television and demand exceptionally high fees for private performances.
Close-Up Magician – ever seen a magician at a wedding, or corporate event? It’ll almost certainly have been a close-up magician. They’re currently the most popular type of magician and perform private shows for small groups of people, mingling with guests and creating a great atmosphere. You can hire close-up magicians to perform at weddings, house parties, corporate events and more.
Comedy Magician – a magician who performs (normally on stage) magic with a lot of jokes. These magicians tend to perform for groups of about 200 to 300 people at a time. Their emphasis is on making people laugh, just as much as it is amazing them with magic.
Mind Reader – those magicians (although some don’t like to be called magicians) who perform tricks that deal with reading thoughts. It’s an increasingly popular style of magic thanks to people like Derren Brown.
Street Magicians – there are two types of street magicians: those who attract a large crowd and rely on tips for their living (normally performing in big cities or tourism areas) and those magicians who wear tight t-shirts, walk up to people and perform a card trick, like David Blaine.
Escapologist – someone who gets tied up and escapes from the chains! It’s one of the rarest, but most interesting types of magic. It was pioneered by Harry Houdini and performed by magicians (often street performers) throughout the world.
