Personal Goals And Objectives
It imperative that everyone identifies goals and objectives that will assist in the improvement of one’s own self. Self improvement is not a rigid and blinkered science. There are many ingredients that can be blended to produce a large variety of self improvement dishes. Checking and improving on personal goals and objectives is one way of self improvement. Identifying realistic short term and long term goals will see to it that one has attained self improvement in one way or another. This paper aims to look into my personal goals and objectives that have and will assist me in improving my self.
To start off, I developed a personal mission statement; “To create a positive change in the society by advocating and instilling values of hard wok, integrity, honesty, loyalty and patriotism in the immediate next generation”. I developed this mission statement having critically examined my life and the important features in my life. Although I am a business student, I consider my self more of an entrepreneur than a business man. The difference between the two is that while the main aim of a businessman is to make profit that of an entrepreneur is to identify a need in the society and meet the need in the society by creating something positive. I have two beautiful daughters whom I believe are the leaders of tomorrow. The society today does not instill positive values in the children and focuses more on the commercial side of life. I would detest seeing my daughters influenced by the societal teachings and end up being more interested in money than leaving a positive life. It is for this reason that I thought it necessary to impact the lives of other young people by advocating for hard work, integrity, loyalty, honesty and patriotism thereby creating a positive change in the society.
For the family, my sub mission statement is “To raise an independent, Innovative, God fearing and admirable family so as to help me achieve my mission”. In order to see that this mission is achieved, I have come up with two goals that will assist.
The first goal is “to raise valuable, productive and happy children”. This is the most important goal in as far as the family is concerned. By achieving this goal, I would have attained part of my mission. By raising productive, valuable and happy children, the society will be shaped as they will influence their peers in becoming productive. This goal, however, faces one major obstacle, the media and the societal teachings today. Although parents may enforce positive values in their children, the society today (mainly through the media) carries out a parallel exercise that enhances and advocate for poor values. The only skill needed for this goal is the parenting one of love. My wife and I need to work hand in hand in order to achieve this goal. My children also need to be on the same page with me on this issue. The objective of this goal is to see to it that my children are able to sustain themselves by the time they reach the age of 18 years.
The second goal, in as far as the family is concerned, is “to create a loving, supportive and happy marriage”. This goal helps in achieving the first goal. It is through my wife’s support that good children will be raised. The main obstacle facing this goal might be the time spent between my self and the family. If I fail to spend enough time with the family, we might end up drifting apart. This goal may not require any skills; it is just about being there for each other. I will definitely need to work with my wife in order to achieve this goal. The objective of this goal is “to see to it that the first goal is met by working together and showing some level of team work.
In as far as education is concerned, my sub mission statement is “to become creative, excellent and self reliant in whatever I do, through continued receipt of knowledge”. Just like in the family, there are goals that will help me attain this mission;
The first goal is “to acquire more of knowledge than information from what I am learning”. Many of the institutions today focus more on the acquisition of information than of knowledge in as far as teaching the students is concerned. By becoming knowledgeable in my field of study, I will be able to see to it that the main mission is achieved from a point of knowledge rather than that of ignorance. The main benefit of this goal is that I will be in a position of know and will be able to achieve my mission. The main obstacle to this is that our education system fails to encourage many to specialize in what they think will be the best way for them to influence the society. To achieve this goal I need to be an extensive and intensive researcher and reader. I will need to work with the student community and the tutors in order to achieve this goal. The objectives of this goal are; to ensure that societal change is carried out from a knowledgeable position and to advocate for the benefits of education in the future generation.
