Going To EPCOT? Experimental Prototype Community Of Tomorrow-A Better World
Opened In 1982 EPCOT was another idea that came from Walt Disney. The center that is part of the Walt Disney World is a place where you’ll find the latest of cutting edge technologies presented to the public in an entertaining way. With the very nature of this park being based around new technology then it has been more suited to adult visitor to the world famous theme park.
To provide the points of interest for the park, Disney encouraged North American Industry to produce their greatest advancements in technologies. They were given free rein to display what could be achieved when some of the best thinkers in the world were allowed to ‘play’. Since the end of 1966 when Walt passed away, leaders in innovation have been providing showcase pieces for inclusion in the Disney dream of a better society.
It all began in 1966 shortly before Walt’s death when he opened the innovation hub which he felt counted as his contribution back to society. With thoughts of improving the world in which we all live in, the advancements and wonders were displayed to the public. The main reason for doing so was to inspire the person on the street to think about their own world and how they could improve it. In short he wanted people to push the boundaries of their own existence.
One of the most famous images that ever had eyes laid on it, and something we associate with Disney is the ‘Spaceship Earth’. This huge spherical attraction is where visitors are taken on a journey through time. If you don’t know what I’m talking about then think of a giant golf ball and Disney and I’m sure you’ll realize. At the end of your journey through the ages you are transported in to the future in the form of ‘Project Tomorrow’.
The World Showcase takes you on a trip around a lagoon with countries you may not know of having their own area to educate the visitors a little and display the diversity of our planets culture. The countries have boat rides and shows that relay some information about the country.
For children and adults alike there is the section called ‘The Seas with Nemo and Friends’. Previously this was known as The Living Seas but has had a change of direction. Now you are taken on the search for Nemo with his friends Dory and Marlin. These comical characters first found their way to people’s hearts in the Disney Cartoon called Finding Nemo. Every body’s favourite clown fish is now an integral part in visitors experience.
Something not to be missed is the 3D experience which is ‘Honey I Shrunk the Kids’. If you do manage to miss this amazing 3D adventure you can be sure of finding something in the 3D demonstration suite. As always in EPCOT, boundaries are pushed to make sure your experience is unlike anything seen in any cinema.
There are simply too many things to mention here to do justice to the wonders on display. Every one of the body’s senses will be tantalized as there are so many entertaining areas of the innovation haven. Any visit to Orlando and Walt Disney World would not be complete without being inspired by the marvels on display.
