Difference Between GSM and CDMA
GSM stands for Group Special Mobile, which has now been changed to Global System for Mobile Communications. CDMA refers to Code Division Multiple Access. The GSM and CDMA work is very different. But the end result, after application of the two technologies is very similar and overlapping in many respects. This article aims to highlight the subtle differences between the two technologies.
GSM vs CDMA
GSM is a very simple standard, while CDMA is somewhat complicated. The key difference between the two is that GSM is a standard and CDMA is a technology but GSM has reached a state of the technology in recent years. So, what is the difference between GSM and CDMA? Read on to find out.
Understanding GSM
GSM is a ‘cellular’ technology, ie the full coverage area is divided into multiple hexagonal cells (hence “cell phones” the popular name). Each cell tower has a corresponding network that serves mobile phones in the cell area. For example: Imagine a beehive in a tree in a garden with a hexagonal shape. The garden has many flowers. The bees collect nectar from flowers, and deposited in the honeycomb. Their mobile phones are like flowers, the tower of the network is like the honeycomb and the bees are the signs.
CDMA Explained
As its name suggests (Code Division Multiple Access), there are many devices that use the same spread spectrum (hence multiple access). There is a physical channel, and a special code for each device in the network coverage. Using this code, the device signal is multiplexed, and the same physical channel used to send the signal (the code may or may not change). For example: There is a street where many buses layers. Obviously, the bus will be many passengers, and will have to buy tickets to ride the bus. In CDMA, the traveler is as mobile phones, the entries are the codes, the bus is a multiplexed carrier signal, and the street is the spread spectrum.
GSM vs CDMA comparison
Call Quality: This is an area where tens GSM CDMA substantially. The statistics are greatly in favor of CDMA. Several factors, such as echoes, dropped call, or voice distortion are almost nonexistent in CDMA, while GSM is a high probability of errors. To give an analogy, the bus in the street layers will continue even when full, but if the nest has reached capacity, honey can not deposit.

Carriers: GSM is one up on CDMA carriers so worried. The law requires companies to offer CDMA mobile phone users, so that users can not change their carriers. Whereas GSM users can change their companies when they want.

Worldwide: There is a special issue all GSM-compatible devices in the world can call in case of an emergency. That number is 112. However, in CDMA, this can not be implemented because of technological limitations.
