LCD Monitor reviews – The features that I look for.
These days you don’t get a monitor along with a computer. All you have is a cabinet and keyboard mouse combo. So you get an option to search for LCD monitor on the internet and I am making money by running a blog which covers LCD monitor reviews. I am writing here about what to look for in a review. If you are in the market for LCD monitors and then make sure you check out all of this before buying one.
Connectivity options: Check if the monitor has all the connection ports that you want. If you are going to play high definition games, then HDMI port is a must. Casual gamers will happily settle for a DVI port. For just simple day to day applications, a VGA port is just enough. I always write about the connection ports in my LCD monitor reviews. Also the ports must be easily accessible.
Ergonomic options: Check out the ergonomic options that the monitor has to offer. All the possible ergonomic options right now are: tilting (back by 20 degrees or so), swivel, pivot (for portrait mode) and height adjustment. The low end monitors just have tilt options where as the step up ones have all the ergonomic options.
OSD array: Most people play with the OSD array just once but professionals like graphic designers play around a lot with the OSD settings. Hence I check if the buttons are good and if they can be accessed easily. Some monitors have touch sensitive buttons located on the bottom right corner where as some monitors have physical buttons. If the buttons are not good, I make a big deal about it in my LCD monitor reviews. It has to be good.
Movie/Game tests: This is my favorite part. I play some games and movies to see how the display fares. The colors must look vibrant and they should have the ‘pop’ too. For game tests, I play any of the recent games and then I compare it with other monitors that I have previously reviewed. I also look at photos on the monitor and write about them in LCD monitor reviews.
Service and support: Monitors usually come with a one year warranty for their product and it covers the backlighting too. High end panels, especially the ones with IPS panel, have a three year warranty since the cost a lot more. Check the warranties that the manufacturer is offering for the product. Also check other support features like toll free number and Web support.
