Mormon Genealogy Tips
The LDS church, despite their slight wackyness, are one of the largest providers of Genealogical Information in the world. In fact, they ARE the largest! Mormon Genealogy is a highly searched for term online. I didn’t realise this until I became interested in Genealogy.
The latter day saints believe that they can save the souls of the dead by praying for them, kind of like an after-death baptism. This is why they have so much genealogical data available. I hate to imagine the amount of money they make each year from their Genealogy services to non-mormons.
I don’t know where this belief started but I think it was not an original idea of Joseph Smiths. If anyone knows, I’d be interested to find out so I can correct this hub. I’m also looking for someone who likes to write about Genealogy and would like to contribute to a new project I’m working on. I want to work with people who genuinely love genealogy and have a lot of experience with it.
I have several genealogy blogs in the following categories: Irish Genealogy, Mormon Genealogy, Canadian Genealogy, African American Genealogy, American Genealogy, Scottish Genealogy.
Mormon Genealogy seems to draw the largest crowd and I’m not really sure why. There’s more Irish people than Mormons… maybe it’s because mormons care more about Genealogy than the Irish do In General.
I have contacted the LDS church and asked about using their genealogy data, it seems that they want to convert me as payment… eek! I could pretend but then I would feel a bit bad. I am interested speaking to anyone who knows a way of accessing their data legally without having to go through the conversion and baptism and marriage and underwear and ahhhh.
I hope you have found this article mildly entertaining and slightly educational.
