The Hope Brighton, A Club or a Pub?
Brighton and Hove has around 900 licensed premises, the city is probably more known for licensed premises that it’s seaside. The huge variety, from trendy clubs to super-pubs means that everyone, locals and visitors, will have somewhere to go that they enjoy. Pubs, clubs, and the places in between, like The Hope Brighton, play an important role in the social life of young people in Brighton. They are places to eat, drink, listen to music, and meet friends. The English love their pub culture and it is there to stay, no matter that Brighton city centre gets really crowded and loud on weekends.
Lots of places in Brighton have been accused of just trying to attract affluent young customers. You won’t hear that comment often about The Hope Brighton even though the pub was refurbished in 2005. They cater to a crowd that is interested in hearing new bands, and musicians hand out there frequently.
Brighton and sees many tourists in the summer months as it’s only an hour from London. While the city is well-known for it’s independent shoppes, artists, beachfront fun and year round events, young people need places to go in the evenings, and the city centre is usually the place of choice. An evening at The Hope Brighton is a great holiday treat, new bands are debuting all the time, so music lovers will find there’s more than drinking going on.
It’s also a great local hang out place for people who moved to Brighton and Hove for the music. A lager, Brighton’s Best, maybe a little music at The Hope Brighton, then on to a great restaurant in the Brighton area is one of my favorite weekend things to do, especially when I come home to visit and bring friends. Brighton and Hove has about half as many restaurants that licensed premises and that’s a lot. Seafood, fish & chip cafes, the new chic cafés for tourists, it’s all there. Brighton’s pubs range from really cheap to ultra expensive, but The Hope Brighton is still affordable and decent enough to take mates to. It’s really convenient to the buses in Brighton and Hove as well, something of great importance to University students because the Taxis are incredibly expensive and parking is almost non-existent. We never drive as someone always wants to stay at The Hope Brighton and listen to a band and then the real drinking gets started.
