Night Wrinkle Cream: Is It Really That Important?

Most women, and some men, are religious about putting on a night wrinkle cream in their daily anti-wrinkle regimen. The notion is that while sleeping, the body, in addition to facial skin, rebuilds and heals itself, so this would seem like a perfect time to apply a high-quality night wrinkle cream. But when you think about it, skin healing and repair is quite a bit more involved than this.

The skin is the most obvious outward sign of your inner health, and when you feel great and are truly healthy, your skin shines. Take a close look at a child’s face next time you see one and you’ll know exactly what I’m referring to. A child’s face is full, with no sagging, wrinkles, or sallow color. On the other hand, look at the face of a smoker and you’ll notice that it’s, shall we say, less than healthy looking, with a lack of good color to it. Free radicals coming from the daily onslaught of inhaled smoke has taken its toll on the overall well-being of the smoker, and their skin displays this damage. Certainly not the vibrant healthy glow we’re looking for, now is it? When you eat right, exercise, and don’t smoke, it shows and people will acknowledge when you have that vibrant glow to your face.

But when people consider getting healthier skin, they most likely think of numerous anti-wrinkle lotions and potions and a good night wrinkle cream that promises gorgeous skin. Yet many of these topicals are modestly effective at best and not worth your hard-earned money. There are, however, a number of creams, consisting of OTC and prescription products, that work against wrinkles. But if you really want to effectively fight wrinkles you must use the 80/20 rule: 80 percent of your effort should be aimed at internal strategies for getting rid of wrinkles, while the other 20 percent of your time should rely on application of effective topical creams.

I have said for years that the largest error the majority of people make in this situation is they try to fight wrinkles from the outside-in, e.g., rubbing creams on their face, etc. But by consuming certain supplements and, yes, even drugs, that help maintain collagen and elastin levels (via stimulating their production while at the same time stopping their breakdown), you are going to find long-term success in the war on wrinkles. When you combine this “inside-out” strategy with effective creams and gels, you’ve got the real fountain of youth for your skin.

An example of this strategy would be using a supplement or drug that stops the breakdown of collagen in the skin, combined with a night wrinkle cream topical such as one with tretinoin creams in it (Renova or Atralin). This angle would have a substantial effect on eliminating wrinkles while at the same time decreasing the aging process of the skin by eliminating the breakdown of collagen.

For anti-wrinkle and skin aging success, adhere to the 80/20 rule and you’ll be a happy camper a decade or two from now when people you know will be scratching their head trying to figure out if you’ve had something done to your face because you have the appearance of someone 10 years younger. This is the scientific anti-wrinkle approach to skin aging, and it will work for as long as you put some effort to learn more about it and apply it to your daily life.
