Meeting Jack

My mother always told me, that when you stop looking for something, you will find it. I always thought it was a very stupid saying and never understood it. Not until the day I met Jack.

It was a cold November evening. Drizzling slightly and with a grey mist in the air. After a hard week at work it had finally reached Friday. All I wanted to do was go home, put on my pyjamas, have a nice glass of wine and sleep until Monday. My friend Helen had different ideas. She wanted to go out into the city centre and party the night away. After a lot of pleading and begging, on her part, I decided to go.

We frequented the normal bars and then decided to go to a club. Although I was enjoying myself, there was part of me that still wished I was snuggled up at home. It was then that I met Jack. Tall, dark and extremely handsome. He asked if he could buy me a drink and I said yes. We danced, we chatted and then we danced some more. It became apparent that he worked in an office building next to mine. I could not believe that I had never noticed him before. He worked for a company Dealer Web Marketing who offered web marketing for a variety of blue chip companies.

At the end of the evening we exchanged numbers. I thought I would never hear from him again, but I couldn’t have been more wrong. Eight years on and we are married with three children, Penelope, Toby and Isabel. We have two dogs and a rabbit named roger.

I now understand what my mother meant. If I had gone out that evening hoping to find Prince Charming, I would have come home with no more than a bag of chips. Thankfully I had stopped looking and managed to find Jack.
