We all know that the top foods to eat when we want to lose weight are healthy fats, whole grains and lean meats. These would be the foods that give us protein and energy. They keep our bodies balanced nutritionally but don’t stuff us full of empty calories that will later have to be burned off at the gym. Skip that protein shakes. So many people believe that having a protein shake is a good way to end cravings when it isn’t meal time. The real truth is that when you are already eating a balanced diet all the protein shake does is overburden your system with protein. No matter what other people imagine, protein is not stashed in the muscles, it is stored in your body as fat. This means that if you have already consumed too much protein that day, your body will basically store what it doesn’t need in your fat cells and that doesn’t help you lose weight or inches of your waist line at all.
Pre-packaged deli meat isn’t really nutritious at all. It’s generally considered that a sandwich constructed of whole grain bread and lean pre-packaged deli meat is a pretty good lunch time item. The real truth is that pre-packaged deli meat has a massive amount preservatives and will provide you with about a third of your advised sodium intake for the day. This might be particularly bothersome if you are prone to heart disease. Rather than buying pre-packaged deli meat, choose some home cooked poultry or the deli meats that is freshly sliced at your deli counter. Yes you’ll spend more money for these choices but you will be healthier if you choose them.
There are many things that we believe are better than others like choosing a whole wheat bagel each morning when the truth is that a bowl of cinnamon sprinkled oatmeal is a much healthier choice. Ask your physician what the best methods for you to eat healthfully are and then follow those directions. If you are cautious about what you eat and therefore are good to your system, losing weight probably won’t be all that big an issue.
