Events in Dubrovnik 2011

Feb
The holiday of St Blaise ( who is Dubrovnik’s guardian saint ) takes place on 3rd February 2011, and includes several ceremonies in which the people of Dubrovnik pay their respect to the saint. The day is also considered a “city of Dubrovnik Day”, and events are also held to celebrate this.
Also this month : the Dubrovnik Carnival starts on 4th February ( running thru to the start of March ) and sees various fun festivities for young and old take place around town, including a masked parade! Performers from neighbouring nations will also join in the fun, suggesting around 1,000 folk will take part over the whole Carnival season. April
The annual Libertas Film festival showcases world and Croatian films and also has european premieres of certain films. The holiday will take place from 11th to 17th Apr 2011.
Easter, 24th Apr 2011, will be celebrated in Dubrovnik as some place else in Croatia – held to the Old city for parties.
May
The folklore ensemble Lindjo perform in Dubrovnik from May across the summer till October ( with special performances in the Summer festival – see later. ) A convention of the city, the dance ensemble have been performing for over forty years
The Dubrovnik Wine and Jazz holiday – combining those 2 elements rather deliciously! – will take place 25th – 29th May 2011. The holiday showcases top class artists from across the jazz spectrum, joined with a selection of top quality Croatian wines.
July
One of Croatia’s most famous events, the Dubrovnik Summer festival will commence on the 11th July 2011 and run until 25th Aug. Each year, the holiday includes theatre, opera, music and dance events at varied open-air venues around the city. 2011 sees the 62nd holiday occur.
Sep
every year, the Julian Rachlin & Friends holiday of chamber music features world famous musicians led by Austrian violinist Julian Rachlin. Started in 2k, the festival features a sequence of concerts each year in superb landmarks across the city. This year the event will take place from 27th August to 8th Sep 2011.
October
The rather sweet sounding ( in more ways than one ) global holiday of Jams & Marmalades occurs over the 1st weeked of October, with a spread of jam products from Croatian and neighbouring states exhibiting. A contest to pick the best jam also takes place!
