Inside a First Aid Kit

Keeping a well-stocked first aid kit is one of the easiest ways to prepare for a home emergency. Check for expired items every year and replace items as they are used.

Store these items in an air-tight container:
Absorbent compresses
Plastic adhesive bandages
Adhesive tape
Antibiotic ointment
Antiseptic wipes
Hand sanitizer
2- to 4-inch bandages
Burn dressing
CPR barrier
Instant ice pack
Eye pads
Eye wash
Latex-free gloves
Knuckle and fingertip bandages
Roller gauze bandages
Pain reliever
Scissors
Tweezers

Inside an Emergency Kit

An emergency kit contains many of the same items as a first-aid kit, but should include additional items for surviving during natural disasters or evacuations:
Contents should include: antiseptic wipes, antibiotic ointment, variety of bandages, adhesive bandages, knuckle and fingertip bandages, water, storage bag, food bars, AM/FM radio, flashlight, batteries, body warmers, ponchos, whistle, light stick, sanitary napkins and a backpack.

“You’ll want to personalize emergency kits with products like baby items, medication and even a spare set of eyeglasses,” said Corrin Ruggiero, preparedness specialist with American Red Cross of the Susquehanna Valley. Update the kit periodically as medical needs change.
