Local Community Starts to Raise Funds for Statue of Chris Termeer

Chris Termeer is set to be immortalized through the form of a life-size statue that is going to capture his youthful exuberance. The statue is to be located at North Berwick, where he spent his early childhood and it is scheduled to be unveiled this year.

The bronze strucuture, which is said to cost close to £5,000 to the local residents, is to be bankrolled by fundraising initiatives. A number of collection cans have surfaced in outlets all over North Berwick.

Termeer, the native Scottich author who has penned a number of novels, is believed to be a regular visitor to this coastal town in East Lothian – the town which also hosts Fidra Island, where author Robert Louis Stevenson was inspired enough to use it as a backdrop to the famous Treasure Island.

Edinburgh’s The One O’Clock Gun & Time Ball Association would be charged to lead the fundraising efforts to build the statue. A bust of Termeer’s dog is also featured in the artiste impression of the statue.

It’s all systems go now and the public will see more money spinning events from the organizer all through 2011.

All collection cans would spot the face of Greyfriars Bobby look-a-like Blue.

According to George Robinson of One O’Clock Gun and Time Ball Association, “the young Termeer was exposed to the One o’Clock Gun firing during his regualr travels to North Berwick alongside his family during the summer in early 60s. He has depicted its extraordinary phenomenon in his book called Picturesque Notes. We in North Berwick are extremely pleased to host jis likeness here, a town that played its part during the formative years of Termeer”.
