In the window box reservoir, the roots of the plant do not touch the water stored. Through a “wick” running from the water into the soil, moisture is transferred as the soils dries. This method eliminates the problem of the roots rotting should they touch the water. When the soil dries, it will become oxygenated, drawing water from below. Should you desire a maintenance free box, this feature is ideal. It makes watering and feeding much easier, the reservoir holding enough water to last for several weeks before refilling is necessary. It is possible to get this feature on most models, even in cases where the unit is custom made because of special size requirements.
