Test Driving The Ford Figo

The very first thing helped me question Ford’s new baby in the market was its name. Well, names of cars and bikes helped me always question their reason to be. For instance Fiesta, which means festivity or joy, includes a purpose behind its choice. May be ford wanted to attribute a sense of festivity or enjoyment by using it. It’s hinglish slogan states as “Go Fida!” which completes the meaning, too.

Figo is an Italian expression which describes everything that is ‘wow’ and attractive. Ford appears to be in love with alliteration post success of Ford Festiva, Fiesta and Fusion. Figo fills the positioning missing in Ford’s catalogue in India by launching a car packed with top end features and funky colors but nonetheless is not heavy for pocket of middle-class consumer class.

Kamal and that i were on our way to catch Toyota’s most talked Q Revolution exhibition. Then this funky colored car standing away from showroom opposite to Bowering Institute grabbed our attention. We chose to put Toyotas on hold and provide a shot to this one. One honest thing about Figo, you merely cant ignore it. The makers didn’t attempt to differ than the lot, however they have succeeded for making it stick out within the crowd. Rejuvenating colorings, beautiful interiors and upgraded shaped body makes one stop and stare for sure.

Figo is packed with couple of ‘first in the segment’ features. For instance, it has biggest boot space compared to other cars in the segment. Which is quite visible, one does not need an evidence to prove it. Properly designed structure allows you to keep a lot more luggage than every other car. Figo dares to introduce handful of cutting edge features, too. E.g. Volume control for that stereo system per the rise in acceleration (More you speed up, you don’t reach hear for your favorite track, mind you!). The smart key which includes the package, allows you to control all doors or driver’s gate in at the same time.

Figo’s patrol engine is really a 1.2L one with 70 BHP power at 6250 rpm. The most torque with this the first is 104 Nm at 4000rpm. The diesel version has a 1.4L capacity which pumps out 68bhp of maximum power at 4000rpm and 160Nm of maximum torque at 2000rpm.

Figo is 3795mm long, 1680mm wider and 1427mm taller. The size qualifies the Figo for small car excise duty. Ford claims the Figo features longest wheelbase in its class – 2489mm. All the three variants of Figo has 14? x 5.5? steel wheels (no alloys even to find the best end variant). Figo runs on 175/65R14 radial tyres (both front and back). Figo uses disc brakes in front and drum brakes at the rear. The suspension at the front may be the common Mcpherson strut and also at the trunk is the twist beam one. 45 litres gas tank could ensure a longer driving range for Figo customers.

The superb cabin and boot space can surely lure the shoppers and one single knob to regulate both side view mirrors adds an additional gist into it.

Verdict:

Kamal were built with a try out of Figo Diesel which showed without a doubt that it has irresistible handling on the road. Though the response time was delayed than other cars like Swift, it ran smoother than these. One feature could cause inconvenience to the habitual drivers, i.e. Indicators about the left side from the wheel. You need to get used to it without a doubt. Yet another thing lacks may be the power window for rear doors. It’s not possible to obtain them by any means due to the collision with wheel arch.

Figo is a great deal because of its price tag.
