CPR Classes To Be Introduced Into Schools

The American Heart Association has suggested that all school children learn CPR at school. This is an excellent idea but it also highlights the lack of people sitting their CPR certification. Classes will help educate these students and who knows they may even save a life afterwards.

Why are cardiac arrests so dangerous? They are dangerous as they occur often without warning and will kill or inflict brain damage within minutes. There is often no time to wait for the emergency services to arrive. Even if they are on the scene very quickly permanent brain damage may have already occurred if the person has not already died. If an AED is used the chances of survival increase dramatically but even if chest only compressions are started, the victim has an increased chance of living. The compressions must be done correctly, at the right speed and also the right depth. You will be taught the technique at the class.

An AED will either give you visual or audio prompts on what actions you should take next but they should never be used unless you have completed your CPR training. They can be dangerous if used incorrectly.

Anything that can increase the numbers of those with CPR certification has to be a good thing. There is something really sad about a first world country having such a high death rate especially when it could potentially be reduced by more people attending a basic first aid class.

If you want to take your CPR certification check with your local Red Cross chapter to see how much the classes are and when they occur. You should find that they are very reasonable and it won’t take long to qualify. If you prefer, the American Heart Association also offers training via the workplace or your local hospital or medical facility. Once you have passed the certification you generally have to recertify every two years. But statistics show that you will forget the information you learn very quickly so you may want to take an annual refresher course. Also recommendations can change from time to time so it pays to keep up to date.

So why not book in today for some CPR AED classes and see how you get on. If you need motivation imagine how you would feel standing by watching someone die? This thought should be sufficient to get you down to your local class today!
