Business Relationships: How To Build Them
If you’re in a business relationship with a customer, a dealer, or an owner – how essential is that connection to you? Do you value the relationship? Do you want to support it?
A business relationship is like any other relationship, it is a two-way street. The expectations of both parties needs to be clear and simply understandable. Using the Golden Rule is also a good idea: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.” That is a pretty powerful statement, and one that you should try to apply in your daily life, both in business and personal matters.
Good communication is key for any business relationship, to grow and progress. Even when problems rise (which they will), be sure to keep the lines of communication open at all times is extremely crucial. Meet conflicts head-on, no matter how terrifying they may seem at the time. The sooner the conflicts are out on the table and solved, the earlier you can get back on track and back to business.
Another thing to keep in mind is letting people know you appreciate them. Thank you letters, cards and e-mails are always a great idea, and they’re never out of style. Everyone loves to be appreciated. If you are receiving great business from a customer, make sure to always let them know. You will feel good for doing it, and so will they.
Another good idea is to reach out and “touch” your clients on a regular basis by mailing them monthly newsletters. This is a great way to keep in touch, both to show them you are thinking about them, and to remind them about you as well.
Dont forget, you get out of a good relationship what you put into it. Value those you do business with. Nurture the relationships, so they are constantly developing and prospering. Keep this up and you will continually have a garden that is full of healthy, happy business contacts.
