Save Our Marriage: Your Cry For Help Answered
How do we save our marriage? When things have reached the point that we’re asking this question we obviously need to take action quickly. The foundation of any healthy marriage is love, and as long as love is present any marriage can be saved.
However, when things get to a certain point the love between you and your partner can be damaged to a degree. This is usually the main contributing factor towards the break up of any marriage. How can we rekindle that love?
The first step is quite obvious. We need to establish what exactly has happened to affect the love you and your spouse share. To be able to achieve this you need to sit down and spend considerable amounts of time talking. A period of being truly and fully open with each other needs to be fostered, one where you are both prepared to hear everything each other has to say without becoming angry or irritable.
After you’ve got these discussions underway, and made sufficient progress, you need to analyse the findings together objectively. Out of the problems you have identified, which ones pose serious threats to your marriage, and which ones are more subtle grievances which can easily be sorted out later. The serious problems need urgent attention from both sides. It’s important that you both focus on listening rather than talking during all this. You need to be able to fully take on board why your partner finds a given problem to be serious, and patiently wait your turn to voice your own opinions and additions.
On a separate note, one thing you both need to start doing immediately is making time for each other. In today’s technological world, even people spending great amounts of time living in the same house can become alienated from each other, and this often has devastating consequences on marriages. Take a serious look at your schedule. How many of the things which you tend to spend your time doing can be put on hold? Have you been being selfish with your time? Set yourself a new schedule, one where your spouse is treated as a top priority.
