The Holy Place of New Delhi Gurudwara Bangla Sahib

Gurudwara Bangla Sahib is situated in the heart of the Delhi which is known by the name of Connaught place. The two important and special features of Gurudwara Bangla Sahib are Sangat congregations, where one can sit and listen to Gur-Bani and Pangat or community kitchen also known as Guru-ka-langar which feeds thousands of people every day.

The Gurdwara is the erstwhile Delhi home of Raja Jai Singh of Jaipur where Guru Harkishan Dev Singh stayed for a while when he came to meet Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb in 1664. The king and his son then went to receive Guru Harkishan Dev on the outskirts of Delhi. At that time the place was known as Jai Singh Palace hence its name as Bangla Sahib (Bungalow is called Bangla in Hindi).

A big blessed bastion includes with this is when Guru Harkishan Dev came to Delhi; the city was severely under smallpox and cholera epidemic. Guru was filled with pity and made every effort to help the people. A large number of people got cured after drinking the water given by him. They started believing that the water was divinely blessed.

Even today people come from different countries take the holy water from here to their homes. The place was later donated by Jai Singh for converting it into a Gurudwara. Both men and women should keep in mind while entering into the Gurudwara their heads should be covered as a sign of respect for Guru Harkishan. You can buy the famous ‘Kada Prasad’ to distribute amongst your family and friends.

How to reach:
Tourists can either take local buses from various points within the city to reach this sacred monument, which is located near the Connaught Place (CP), the heart of the city, or they can hire auto-rickshaws and taxis or metro rail. Public buses are also easily available from all parts of New Delhi; this service is being run by Delhi Transport Corporation. From CP one can take a stroll to this sacred site. The nearest Railway Station is New Delhi Railway Station. The nearest Metro Station to the Bangla Sahib Gurudwara is Rajiv Chowk. The nearest International Airport is Indira Gandhi International Airport.

Connaught place is filled with all types of hotels which include 5 star, 4 star and budgeted hotels. Here it provides wonderful accommodation facilities in very reasonable rates. There are many hotels like Hotel Taj, Le Meridian, Crown Plaza, Broadway hotel, Regent inn Imperial Hotel, Hotel Inter-Continental, Parikrama Revolving restaurant, Gaylord, El Rodeo, Bercos, Zen restaurant, Delhi Darbar, Nizam’s Kathi Kebabs and Standard Restaurant.

If you are interested in snacks and fast foods then you should go to Bengali Market (sweets and chat), Kake da hotel (Indian food), Wengers, Mc Donalds, Pizza Hut, Domino’s Pizza, Nirula’s, Ruby Tuesday, Sona Rupa, Starbeans, Barista, Café Coffee Day and innumerable roadside food stalls. There are many more restaurants and fast food centers in Connaught Place, you will find them if you take a walk on the streets.
