Welsh Choice is proud to offer the works of three highly skilled Welsh jewellers who have created truly unique Welsh Jewellery. Mari Eluned, Suzie Horan and LA Jewellery have taken inspiration from Welsh history and culture as well as the stunning Welsh landscape to produce bespoke Welsh Jewellery. Echoing the shapes, colours and textures found in Welsh art, Celtic history and modern cultural themes as well as those that occur naturally in the Welsh landscape to provide new interpretations of what it is to be Welsh through their work. To achieve authentic Welsh jewellery the Welsh landscape is more than just a source for creative inspiration, it’s provides the resources each artists works with.
Mari Eluned uses locally sourced Sterling Silver and pebbles, slate and collected on coastal walks and rural adventures. These raw materials are taken back to her workshop in Mallwyd, Merionethshire to be handcrafted into unique, distinctive designs. Marie Eluned’s pebble jewellery is made from carefully selected, drilled and polished pebbles that are combined with freshwater pearls and beads. Each pebble is shaped by thousands of years of geological processes and is a unique memento of the history of the Welsh landscape. The quality of Welsh slate has worldwide recognition and its importance to Welsh design and culture is evident by the use of Welsh slate in industry and architecture. To highlight the significance of Welsh slate it’s one of Mari Eluned’s preferred materials and its rich natural colours work wonderfully with both gold and silver.
Suzie Horan is an award winning Welsh designer, silversmith and jeweller and uses Sterling Silver to achieve unique jewellery inspired by the beautiful, delicates forms of ammonites found in abundance along the Welsh coastline. Using techniques such as hammering and forming by hand and the less organic process of pressforming Suzie Horan has achieved a range of Welsh Jewellery and tableware that is light, tactile and strong. All of her pieces bear the designer’s Hallmark and are likely to be collectables of the future.
LA Jewellery also uses local Sterling Silver, made from recycled and refined metal reclaimed from industrial processes. Bespoke Silver Sterling jewellery is then accented with fresh-water pearls, semi-precious stones and Swarovski crystals in stunning colours and shapes. At Welsh Choice our objective is to promote products created by Welsh artists and craftsmen unique to Wales.
