Interactive Whiteboards improving technology in the classroom

It is easy to see why new technology is appearing in the classroom in recent years as companies have recognised that students benefit from interacting in the classroom. When we say interacting in the classroom, we do not mean turning around and chatting to their friends though, it involves interacting with the teachers and classmates to get a better understanding of the topic that is being taught. Interactive whiteboards have been a revolutionary introduction to the market as they have made learning more fun for students which in turn, makes things easier and less stressful for teachers.

With the power of a computer, the simplicity of a whiteboard and a front projection, an interactive whiteboard can make lessons more interactive so instead of showing a uninteresting graph that the teacher has had to print out or draw freehand, you can bring up a colourful graph that has the same information on but instead of students having to just stare at the graph and have to write down every last detail the teacher talks about, the teacher can use the intuitive pen to write clear and precise explanations around the graph making it easily understandable for all the students.

Many schools had whiteboards in the past but the step up to interactive whiteboards was a natural progression that had to happen given the advances in technology. The interactive whiteboards are great for getting the students involved in the lesson and you can allow them to use the IWB (interactive whiteboard) safe in the knowledge that they are using a sturdy piece of equipment. These products are not just applicable to one subject either as they apply to all subjects across the national curriculum. Get the students to pinpoint a certain city or country on a map, give them mathematics equations to solve on the board itself or get them to design their own product; whatever you want to do you will be able to do it on the interactive whiteboard.

From first years at primary school right up to those doing their masters degree at university, you can benefit from having these IWB’s in the classroom as, no matter what age you are, interacting in a topic will mean you get a better understanding of it. If you are a teacher and have tried to find ways of making your lessons more interesting then you may have just found the answer.

An interactive whiteboard may be the answer to teachers’ problems in getting students to interact and there are many other forms of classroom technology to take advantage as well.
