Sydney Community College regularly holds talks and information nights with prominent Australian and international photographers who share their insights into professional photography, their stories and how you can make your photography that little bit better.

Graham Monro, one of Australia’s best wedding and portrait photographers, frequently runs talks and workshops in all major cities around Australia and New Zealand that focus on how to get the most out of your EOS digital SLR cameras, so be sure to keep an eye on his website for upcoming dates and announcements.

University of Sydney

The University of Sydney is holding events throughout the year until June with professional photographers, scholars and artists. Talks, exhibitions and info sessions are usually free to attend. Sometimes there is an admission fee, but it’s nominal.

Head On Photo Festival, Sydney

Another great way to learn from the professionals to is draw inspiration from their creative work, and there is plenty of inspiration to be gained at events such as the Head On Photo Festival. It runs from 5th of May to the 11th of June, and will include indoor and outdoor exhibitions, screenings, workshops, seminars and special events around Sydney’s galleries, cafes, parklands and streets. Queenstown Centre of Creative photography

Whether you live there, or are visiting New Zealand, be sure to drop in and visit Jackie Ranken and husband Mike Langford for one of their fantastic photography workshops. They offer ongoing photography education programs, one-day courses and one-on-one tutorial sessions on everything from using different digital camera lenses, to photographing different seasons, to getting the best out of colours and landscapes. They’ve also just released a new Landscape Photography book which you can read for some extra expert tips.
