How To Gain Confidence In Yourself
Do you need to gain more confidence in yourself? The best foundation to your confidence is to have an honest and full knowledge of what your strengths are. Since we were all children, we were taught that we shouldn’t be proud of what we have done because we need to be humble and modest. I’m sure you were told not to show off or boast about what you can do or have done. This may have been thought to be good advice but what if you took this to heart and you in turn stopped acknowledging the strengths you have. Many of us have let life beat us down and we stopped believing in ourselves.
If you think that you don’t have any strength at all, you are very wrong because everyone, no matter who they are have strengths. Maybe you are just so used to burring and ignoring all your strengths that you have plain forgotten what they are. So, to gain more confidence in yourself you will need to find those strengths again and be proud of them, because it’s not wrong or bad to be proud of what you are good at.
Here is a very helpful exercise you can do to help gain confidence in yourself again. Make a list and write down all your strengths, no matter how small you think they may be, it doesn’t matter, write down everything. It cannot be just two or three either; I want you to list over fifty. Now, you may think you don’t even have one but that isn’t true. Number your paper 1 through 50 and if you have to ask others what they believe your strengths are then do it and write it down. You will see that once you begin looking for your strengths you will see them. I don’t care if you have to start with, “I can dress myself every day” at least it’s something.
If you haven’t asked anyone else what they believe your strengths are, then find at least five people and ask them and write down all their answers. You will probably be quite surprised at what they all have to say and you have probably taken a lot of your strengths for granted. Once you have this long list keep it someplace where you can view it every day and read it every day and you will see that you will start gaining confidence in yourself again.
