BEN GAMLA: A Perfect School for Bilingual Hebrew Education
The first school to offer high school students a bilingual Hebrew education, Ben Gamla Charter plans to open its doors to incoming 9th and 10th graders for the 2011/2012 school year. The school will then add an additional high school grade each consecutive year becoming a K-12 facility by 2013/2014.
With an initial grant well over $300,000, Ben Gamla Charter is currently starting to build a state of the art science lab and library. In addition, every high school student will receive a laptop to complete assignments and access resources and textbooks at home. The school will adopt SpringBoard®, a College Board curriculum for math and reading meant to increase rigor and prepare students for AP courses and college level work. Einav D. Cabrera, principal at the Plantation campus states “The high school will provide students in our community with the opportunity to have a complete experience with our school. Not only will we continue our Hebrew oriented curriculum, but students will also be challenged in other aspects of learning.”
Current students of Ben Gamla are excited about being able to continue the journey with their school. Many of the current eighth graders will be transferring to the high school and thus will create the first graduating class. Students will have the opportunity to create clubs and sports programs tailored to their interests and talents. Furthermore, the school will employ a newly formed virtual school to make numerous electives available to students. Students will be able to take a multitude of classes in a nurturing, supportive atmosphere. Still, traditional school amenities, like lockers and technology, will be present as well. The school will be equipped with Promethean, electronic whiteboards, in every classroom, several computer labs and mobile laptop carts.
In all, this addition to the Ben Gamla Charter chain is the beginning of a new prospect for families seeking a Hebrew language and culture education for their children.
Registration will be open until May, 2011, and Ben Gamla Charter will even be providing transportation for its new incoming high school students from Weston, North Miami Beach, Aventura and Hallandale areas.
