Buying a reliable car

When buying a car, whether it’s brand new or a used vehicle, many people are now factoring in things like running costs instead of just buying the car they want based on desire. The current economic climate where most families have seen their spending power reduced coupled with the political instability in oil producing countries in the Middle East and Northern Africa which inevitably affects fuel prices, getting a reliable and frugal car is for many becoming very important.

This however doesn’t mean you can’t buy a luxurious car. Japanese made vehicles have for many years been recognised as solid buys because of their reliability and relatively low running costs in terms of service costs, fuel and insurance. And although makes such as Toyota and Lexus have been subject to certain recalls in 2010, owners still seem to rate these makes highly.

In one satisfaction table compiled in 2010, Lexus topped table ahead of the Jaguar XF with Toyota coming in fifth.

In terms of reliability Honda topped the rankings in one online magazine’s study ahead of manufacturers such as Subaru, Mitsubishi, Lexus, Toyota, Mazda and Nissan. Reliability in this study is measured in how often a car breaks down and needs repairing and how much this repair will cost you. Some makes and models are cheaper to repair than others but if a car which is cheap to repair breaks down easily, money wise you’re probably better off with a car that breaks down less. Toyota cars for instance tend to have high average costs of repairs fail less frequently.

So if you’re in the market for a reliable car why not try out a Japanese make such as Honda or a used Lexus. Southend is one area in the south east of England where car dealers should be able to help.
