Playing Games on Road Trips
The long road trips, if they are with family, friends, or a foreign public transport, can be tedious, especially if the group of people in
the car is quite diverse. Often, you and your fellow travelers who have different tastes in music, different opinions on the use of radio
and volume, and the different interests of conversation. Other problems can add to them. For example, others may feel talkative at
times they prefer to see the landscape, and vice versa. After only a few hours on the road, these scenarios can become irritating to
passengers, even the most calm and sensible.
Keep a positive attitude
In order to make road trips more pain for everyone involved, it is a good idea for car travelers to stay sympathy for each other.
Remember that other people in the car, whether siblings, parents or friends are probably as irritated by the situation as you, and
unless everyone makes a concerted effort to keep a positive attitude, the atmosphere in the car could deteriorate rapidly, exacerbating
the problem. A great way to keep everyone on the same page and in a decent mood is to play games in the car. Road Trip games are
one of the hallmarks of long travel range, but in the age of portable technology many people may not be aware of some of the
classics.
Benefits of Road Trip Games
The next time you’re on a road trip, try to keep your smartphone for a few minutes and participate in friendly competition with their
travel partners. This will not only make time go faster, a gesture of courtesy to the driver, who can not (or at least should not) send
text messages or surf the Internet while behind the wheel. Even if you are the content of video games for hours and hours in the
passenger seat, remember how important it is to keep the driver happy! A frustrated driver can become an aggressive driver or
distracted, and suddenly everyone’s safety in the car is at stake.
The All-Star Game
When choosing a game to play in the car, pick something that everyone can participate in. trivia games and “Twenty Questions” style
games can be fun for some people, but could exclude children and others who have difficulty with that style of thought. A game the
whole family can enjoy is called The All-Star Game. The ground rules are: someone begins to think of the name of a celebrity. The
celebrity can be fictional or real, alive or dead. For example, the first person might say, “George Washington.” Move left, now the
next person must name a celebrity whose name begins with W, the last initial of former celebrity. Thus, the person might say, “Willy
Wonka.” The game continues in this manner, each thinking of someone whose name begins with the first letter of the name of the
famous earlier. The beauty of this game is that there are no winners or losers. Everyone can participate, and may continue for as long
as players can handle it.
The alphabet game
The alphabet game is another favorite road trip has a purpose and usually a clear winner. Each person in the car have to look outside
the car signals for the letters of the alphabet, from A to Z. Every sign is valid, including license plates, if not in the car interior players.
Once a player has claimed a signal, no other player can use a card of the same sign. For example, if a traveler sees a sign that says
“Gas”, she could claim the A signal, saying aloud. No other player can use letters from that sign. The first player to reach the Z,
pointing to the letters on the sign is the winner. This game is more fun on long, empty road where the signs are few and far between,
but can be more energetic and chaotic if you play in cities.
