The Story of Spanx
Woman love to show off their assets and Sara Blakely tapped into her creative juices to come up with Spanx. The general concept was genius because women want to look better and body shaping wear helps women to do exactly that.
The creator of Spanx was then able to produce a prototype and convince a manufacturer to create this genius design. Since the creation of body shaping wear, it has been well received in many of the finest retail stores.
Patenting SPANX
Creating Spanx did not happen overnight. Even though it was a great idea to make women look great, there was a lot left to do. Sara began to read up on trademarks and patents in order to make her dream a reality. After sufficient research she began to write the patent herself and then hired a lawyer to help her to write the claims. Soon afterwards, the patent for SPANX was approved and she was onto her next adventure. Having the patent was just the beginning of revolutionising how a woman could look and feel in her clothes.
The Manufacturing Process
Not many people believed in this idea but she was able to finally convince someone to manufacture her creation. It was a good thing she did, because millions of women all over the world have benefitted from Spanx body shapers and the designs have given women much more confidence in their overall, everyday life.
The Packaging Design for SPANX
Part of selling a product like body shapers is in the appearance and how women would respond to the garments. Sara knew that the packaging needed to catch the attention of women, but the packaging could not be offensive to women’s view of her own body. She decided to go with a bright red packaging and the humorous tagline “Don’t worry, we’ve got your butt covered”. SPANX began initially as a product sold at Neiman Marcus and soon to follow was Saks, Nordstrom, Bloomingdales and many other well-known retail stores.
Ever since then, the Story of Spanx has continued to blossom. This amazing body shaping product for women spread from word of mouth and from constant leg work on Sara’s part. Ever since the inception of Spank body shapers, women have changed the way that they look at fashion. They can now wear dresses and pants that they thought they would never be able to look good in. Now these women walk proudly down the street with their Spanx body shape wear and the best part is that no one knows the secret to a great looking body.
