Are Dolphins Like Humans, Find Out at the DRC
Not only can you learn about sea life at the Dolphin Research Center, but you can also swim with the dolphins. Located in Grassy Key, Florida and more commonly known as the “DRC”, the Dolphin Research Center opened in 1958. The public is welcome and there are educational presentations available to visitors throughout the day. The DRC is a not-for-profit education and research facility. On of the many things they do is rehabilitation and their lagoon structure is a great environment for raising dolphins. Especially of interest is the that the facility is licensed by the Federal Government to help manatees in distress.
If you visit only one point of interest in the Florida Keys, I recommend the Dolphin Research Center. The exciting presentations and daily demonstrations of all things dolphin make for great family fun. The DRC houses an entire dolphin family. Newcomers like Cayo and Gypsi join older dolphins and contribute to the reseach and fun. The dolphins love to entertain and do speed runs, dives, and jumps! They do tricks and react especially well to the crowd of humans watching them perform. What makes the DRC convenient for people on vacation in the Florida Keys is that the facility is open seven days a week and only closed on a few holidays. The facility has free parking, is handicap accessible and offers group admissions.
I can’t think of a better way to enjoy a vacation in the Florida Keys then swimming with a dolphin. The DRC offers many ways to interact with the dolphins. You can be a trainer for a day, learn researching techniques, or participate in a dolphin encounter. The Dolphin Research Center is a must do for anyone looking to really experience the Florida Keys.
