What’s the Best Type of Swimwear for Your Body

Gone are the days where you had a simple choice of bikini or swimsuit and nothing in between. Swimwear manufacturers have learned that there are lots of sub-categories of swimwear that enable them to make beachwear and swimwear the fits properly and flatters every body shape and size. Here are a list of the most popular swimwear types and what body shapes they flatter the most.

Cut Outs
A cut out is essentially a half breed between a one piece swimsuit and a bikini. It kind of does what it says on the tin as technically it is still a one piece swimsuit but depending on the style it has varying degrees of material cut away to expose more skin. Cut Out swimsuits are perfect for athletic and toned bodies as they show off the toned parts of the body like nothing else can. Be careful though, even though I said athletic and toned, you still need a womanly shape to carry off the look. If you have a boyish body you need to make sure your waist is well defined to get away with a cut out.

Bandeau Tops
Bandeau tops offer no support whatsoever and so they are only really any good for smaller breasted women who don’t need the support. Go for a bright colour bandeau bikini top and it will help to balance you out if you have a smaller top but a larger bottom. V shaped bandeaus and those with prints will help to enhance the size and shape of your bust

One Piece Swimsuits
To be honest, this one is more down to personal choice as you will always be able to find a one piece swimsuit that fits properly and flatters your body shape, with one exception. If you have a long torso, then a one piece suit may not work as the length may not be long enough to allow it to fit properly. There are lots of retro cut one piece swimsuits out there at the moment and these are great for hourglass figures. If you are petite, then go for a low neckline and halternecks.

Tankinis
Tankinis are great for hiding bits that aren’t quite perfect such as untoned tummies. Tankinis are great and whatever you might have heard are definitely not considered frumpish. There are plenty of shapes, colours and styles out there that look great. You can also take advantage of the tankini being a two piece to help balance out your body shape. Smaller breasted women should go for brighter, bolder coloured tops and darker bottoms. This gives the illusion of the bust being bigger and draws the eye away from the bottom. The opposite is true for larger breasted women.

String Bikinis
String bikinis are ideal for slimmer women or women who might have what is considered to be a boyish shape. This is because they tend to be quite skimpy and this look is perfect for showing of a slim body. The thin tie sides also have the advantage of making your legs look longer. One thing to be careful of with tie sides is to make sure you don’t have them too tight as they will squeeze your legs making them look bigger than they are.

Boyleg Shorts
These are great if you have a curvy toned bottom that you want to show off, because these sort of shorts do just that, they draw the eye to your bottom and allow you to show it off without revealing too much flesh. However, notice I said curvy AND toned. If you have a curvy but untoned bottom then avoid the boyleg. Instead go for something where the cut gets higher as it reaches the hip as this will flatter you much more.

Underwired Tops
Underwiring in bikini tops is there for exactly the same reason as it is in your bra. It provides support. Therefore these are great for larger breasted women who want their swimwear to flatter their larger top areas. Gone are the days when underwired bras were considered frumpy. Modern bras and bikini tops have just as much style and flare about them as all the other styles and will help you look sexy and stylish on the beach.

Halter Necks
Halter neck swimwear again is more of a personal choice as you will be able to find a halter neck bikini top or swimsuit that flatters any body shape. They are perfect for anyone because they have the effect of being multi-functional in that they enhance smaller breasted women but hold in and shape larger ones. They also allow you to balance your body shape out by showing off the shoulders and drawing the eye away from bottoms making them appear smaller. However, one thing to be aware of is the amount of material being used. A skimpier halter neck is great for a small breasted woman but a larger breasted woman may want to go for something with more coverage and support.

Skirts and Frills
Do you have a bit of a boyish figure and want to enhance your curves? Look no further as you can achieve this by looking for something with frills or by adding a skirt as they make your waist look smaller and enhance the shape of your bottom and hips. Don’t over do it though, the bigger the skirt and the more the frills, the bigger you will look.
