What Skiing Can Teach You About Learning Online Marketing
Skiing was a sport I’d always wanted to attempt — I’d always loved watching it on TV, and it just seemed such an large amount of fun. I resolved to take a class as soon as I made enough money and find a way to take a trip to a ski resort. If I found that I really did enjoy it that much, I’d take another lesson; if not, I wouldn’t. The day finally arrived when I could afford an one-day bus trip sponsored by a sporting goods store.
In my dutifully obtained long johns, insulated jacket, and boxing glove-sized mittens, I showed up for departure at 6AM. A few short hours later, I was at the foot of the ski area specified for newbie skiers. On the ski area’s other two summits, I observed what looked to be lots of multi-colored jelly beans slipping down them. They were, of course, actual skiers!
I was a little freaked out by the sight — what had I gotten myself into? But then I thought, “You DON’T belong over there. You belong over here.” Undoubtedly, it was going to take a little bit of work, but if I did the work, I COULD be a “jelly bean” skier one day.
It took a couple of winters, extra trips, a stress fracture, more lessons, and a LOT of “face plants”. But by setting goals each winter, I did finally leave the beginner slopes, then break through the glass ceiling most intermediate skiers hit. Then came the big day — I joined the legions of the “jelly bean skiers” by making my first run down the same trails that had once looked to be miles beyond my ability!
Training in Web-based marketing online at Wealthy Affiliate University has really resurrected those memories, and it’s because I find myself at the base of those baby trails once again. But I realize that just as I didn’t become a skilled skier in a single day, getting to the peak of the Internet marketing trails will also take an investment of self motivation, patience, and a little seed money.
