Bed Bath & Beyond Job Vacancies

Bed Bath & Beyond (note the ampersand, not ‘and’) Inc. (NASDAQ:BBBY) was set up in 1971 and runs a chain of superstores selling, as its name suggests, bedroom, bathroom and (now for the ‘Beyond’ part) kitchen and dining room furniture, also gadgets, food, gifts, health and beauty, and infant merchandise. The company’s target client-base is the middle to top end of the market – i.e. neither absolute luxury nor budget-priced economy.Their headquarters are in Union, New Jersey and they employ 39,000 workers across the USA and Canada in over 1,100 stores: the floor area of each ranging from 25,000 to over 90,000 square feet. The company claims to be offering a ‘constantly evolving shopping environment that has proven to be both fun and exciting for customers’.The last published financial figures were for 2009 and show a $683m gross profit on a turnover of $7.21bn which works out at a respectable 9.5%.The company states in their job adverts that they consider good service and product knowledge to be the keys to running a successful retail enterprise and, in order to achieve this, they expect their employees to be both energetic and ambitious. Therefore, when filling out the application form (either the paper or the online version), make sure that you demonstrate these characteristics as best you can but, obviously, don’t over-reach yourself with the ambition aspect. For example, if you are starting off as a Stores Assistant, saying that you would ultimately like to run your own store is a sensible and, hopefully, attainable goal. Saying you are expecting to be offered a seat on the board of directors just makes you look like a dreamer.Ideally Bed Bath & Beyond say that they like to see previous experience – even for entry level jobs like Stores Associate, Stock Associate and Cashier but don’t let that discourage you as they promise training for novices.Like any job, it pays to take time and care over your application. Merely splurging out hundreds of forms in the hope that some of them will hit home is almost certainly doomed to failure. It is far better to find out as much as you can about the precise position and current promotions (visit the store as a would-be customer first) so that you can target what you write about yourself.Whether you mention the fact at interview that Bed Bath & Beyond has been alluded to in a number of popular TV comedies (including The Simpsons when gun-toting Homer buys his rifle from ‘Bloodbath and Beyond’), has to be a moot point, of course!
