Garbage in Rare Form

Hopefully, over the course of your lifetime, you’ve taken the opportunity to ponder a number of the essential questions in your life. Why is the sky blue? Where to babies come from? Why do volcanoes erupt? And, also extremely critical, what happens to all the trash that I put inside the garbage can? While not at first apparent, you might soon see just how essential this last question would be to our future on this planet!

Take, for instance, the many videos and documentaries on the topic of the East and West Pacific Garbage Patches (as they are generally called)! After viewing this media, what was once thought to be a random child’s question, soon presents itself as an extremely overwhelming challenge for all citizens of this planet!

Sorry to say, so numerous of us and those in generations gone by, by no means used the time to ponder the ramifications of the choices that we have created in instituting waste management services offered to such a huge portion of civilized countries. An additional unfortunate attitude that propagated itself with the removing of waste from one’s household will be the “out of sight, out of mind” mentality. In light of these two deplorable methods of thinking, we have soon polluted our planet to a point of no return.

Although it can be impossible to restore our planet to what it when was, we still have a plethora of daily alternatives that could keep from our course of destruction and put us on a brand new course of individual responsibility. Granted, these alternatives will not be convenient nor uncomplicated, but they can assist us in looking forward to a brighter tomorrow.

Some of the many suggested solutions incorporate reducing the amount of garbage that we contribute by basically purchasing less, reusing the products and containers that we currently need to cut down on waster, and recycling those items that can not be reused. The first answer is actually a Should, even though the second and third solutions come with some extremely valid warnings. Reusing and recycling supplies is a great alternative to adding to the great garbage patches, but might be counterproductive if the supplies being reused or recycled are toxic (namely plastics and their derivatives)!

When we reuse plastics, we expose our health to the terrible toxins contained inside. When we recycle plastics, we frequently expose our environment to the exact same toxins from which we had been hoping to safeguard it. We do not want to trade plastics in our oceans for plastic particles in the air we breathe! Instead, we must start creating life changes and demanding on an every day basis the use of other materials instead. Alter will not come simply, but as we start to 1st alter our own habits and then tell others of this change, the options that we make daily will begin to make a distinction in our world!
