The various and Harmful Health Effects of Obesity

It is fairly common awareness that obesity is a dangerous state for your general health. The annual cost is numerous tens of billions of dollars in the US for all the similar problems linked to obesity. You can include the multi-billion dollar a year total that is spent each year for diet related products. The US continues to be slowly putting on more weight with each passing year, or so it appears. Of course the food and drink industry does not help things. The main issue with so many foods and drinks is they have poor varieties of fat and are loaded with sugar. Obesity typically causes an array of health problems, and here are a couple of important ones.

One of the most serious repercussions of obesity is type 2 diabetes, and more new occurrences appear each year. In the past, type 2 diabetes generally developed in adults, but that has changed since more teens are medically obese. The starting point of diabetes comes about because study has shown a high link between insulin resistance and unhealthy weight. There is little doubt that years of consuming high sugar content food items and beverages plays a significant role. One very detrimental component used in so many soft drinks is high fructose corn syrup. This substance is a lot like extremely strong sugar and will send glucose levels soaring.

Other dangerous conditions which have been often seen involve destruction of certain joints in the body. The principal areas are the weight bearing joints including hips, knees and ankles. Osteoarthritis is often seen in these situations as well because of joint damage. Unfortunately the usual procedure of joint replacement is not necessarily a viable option. However, the most effective results occur when there is no obese problem in these patients. But for those who could reap the benefits of it yet are obese, this is simply not always advised. At the least it can be a risky procedure as the heavy weight on the synthetic joint can cause problems. The threat here is the large load on the artificial joint could potentially cause it to be unstable.

Problems are very common involving the cardiovascular system and particularly high blood pressure. The problem with possessing so much weight is it significantly strains the entire body. The reason for this as it pertains to the cardiovascular system is the extra fat tissue still requires blood for nutrients and oxygen. So that in turn causes the heart to work much harder so it can provide what is necessary. Not interestingly, one’s heart must produce a great deal of pressure to keep all that tissue oxygenated. Another standard effect is a chronically greater heart rate due to the higher workload required.

The predicament of obesity is an overall highly adverse effect on all the body’s organs. But our conversation here today is only the tip of the iceberg in relation to all that is possible.
