What is RIDDOR?
The RIDDOR regulations place responsibilities on employers to report certain matters to the Health and Safety Executive. The confusing thing is knowing what to report and in what time-scales.
RIDDOR – Notifying the Health and Safety Executive (HSE)
If there is an accident connected with work and an employee, self-employed person, or even a member of the public are injured, then you may need to contact the HSE to advise them of the situation. However, you are then likely to come under investigation with Inspectors demanding to see your H&S Management System and not just a file on the shelf. They will want to see that it has been implemented and then will certainly want to interview your workforce.
Would you be confident that your staff would be able to confirm that they are working in line with what the Risk Assessment says?
RIDDOR Reporting
Failure to report a major injury, three day injury, reportable disease or dangerous occurrence to the HSE within 10 days can lead to prosecution. With fines running at a lower court maximum of £5000*, having a Health and Safety Management System to manage and minimise risks is essential. Consult specialized health and safety advisors for further information and advice.
