BMW 3 Series
BMW, the German premium car manufacturer has been producing the 3 Series since 1975. It is a compact executive car; it replaced the BMW New Class. It has been produced over five generations and is available in five different body styles including saloon, estate and cabriolet models. The 3 series is BMW’s best selling model with it accounting for nearly 40% of new car sales.
The fifth generation E90 is the current 3 series; it is available as a saloon, estate and coupe. The E90 has been completely re-engineered from the previous generation. There have been significant changes to the engines, transmissions and interior cabin. The coupe/cabriolet model is now a standalone model and no longer derived from the saloon. The coupe and cabriolet model is now wider and longer than the E90/91 model.
There are quite a few engine choices in the new BMW 3 Series, the entry level 114bhp 316 diesel and the 141bhp 31i are decent basic engines. There other engine configurations include the gutsier 320i petrol, the 318d and two versions of the 320d. In the larger engine choices there are the 325i and the turbocharged 335i. There are some big diesel engines in the range, the 325d, 330d and 335d units.
Transmission options include a six-speed manual, six-speed automatic or, for 335i versions, a twin-clutch seven-speed transmission with manual or automatic shifts.
The 3 Series is the best selling BMW and one of the best selling models in its class. You can tell exactly why when you take it for a spin. The 3 Series has sharp driving characteristics, amazing body control and everlasting grip.
