Is purchasing a 3D television at this time a good idea?

Choosing a 3D tv isn’t easy as there are so many manufacturers and options available. Attempting to learn about HDTV was arduous enough and now 3DTV comes along forcing us to learn even more. So what should you do? Should you make the upgrade to 3D now or hold on until the market becomes more mature? This article takes a look at some of the factors when it comes to deciding whether to take the dive or not and purchasing a 3D television.

Overall, the technology is ready now and is at a stage where you can get an enormously high quality 3D viewing experience. Insufficient 3D material on tv is the main issue for most people. The press and television manufacturers such as Sony and the like regularly say that there will be a large amount of 3D content available soon. Is it ready right now? No, not quite, however we’re getting there.

Media playable by 3D tv’s

The Discovery channel will be premiering a brand new 3D channel that runs 24 hours a day. In addition to this ESPN will be broadcasting many sporting shows in 3D as well. It’s actually not a big deal to create new Live 3D events, in fact it’s far cheaper than 3D movies. Get ready to see alot more Live 3D television as time goes on.

What about games?

Not wanting to be left behind the gaming industry is investing a large amount of money to develop new platforms and games that support 3D viewabilty. The games industry speed of adoption was pretty quick, for example the PS3’s firmware now supports 3D. null On top of this Sony will be releasing a 3D playstation 3 console.

PC owners should feel lucky as there are far more 3D titles being released for PC’s compared to the games console. One main reason for this is that 3D TV’s are already compatible with Open-GL and DirectX systems for displaying graphics on-screen. So if you want to play Quake or any other computer game in 3 Dimensions all you have to do is to purchase a 3D television set!

3D Blu-Ray discs

This is by far the biggest type of 3D media available now compared to games and television etc. Further to that according to the news in Hollywood we can expect to see a flood of new 3D movie releases coming soon.

So in terms of the amount of 3D content out there overall I’d say we’re on the way, but it would be rash to say that 3D is part of the mainstream already.

That’s all well and good, but do I get one now or not?

There is 1080p resolution on all 3D tv sets, and since 3D tv’s also display 2D HDTV there isn’t much point in getting a regular 2D HDTV anymore. Different makers have their own standards and models so the results vary from TV to TV, however what remains constant is that the 3D image quality on all of them is undeniably impressive. With the quality already being so high 3D television will become a standard feature of all new television’s. Like how all television’s are now HD. 3D televisions have 2D HDTV capabilities as well by default and the price is generally not much higher in the 3D television models so waiting for them to get even cheaper is more of a strategy that made sense last year but not any more.

Unlike a year or two ago 3D televisions are now available for unexpectedly little. The time is better than ever before to get into the 3D world.

An example of a great and highly recommend 3D TV is the 60 inch Mitsubishi WD-60638. This is an example of outstanding quality and value as it is under $1000.
