LED Lightbar units are lighting our first responder’s way
LED lightbar units are important, that is a fact and it is undisputable. Regardless of the agency or emergency service you work for your vehicle will need a LED lightbar of some kind or other.
In the early days of first response or emergency vehicles they would have had no lights and probably just a simple bell. The bell would have done little to draw attention to the fact the vehicle was on the move and or attending a call. Many of the newer lightbars today contain LED lights as the prices of these units are reducing, plus you have superior light power from LED bulbs with less power usage. The LED lightbar can be left on for long periods without producing a huge drain on vehicle batteries so that is a massive advantage against other lighting types.
There are two different types of light head used in LED lightbar units; TIR light heads and linear light heads. The TIR light heads have internal optics, which concentrate the beam of light, producing good light output. The TIR light heads also often have a diffuser lens to widen the spread of the light. The linear light head features a number of LED’s mounted on a linear lens with a reflector mounting which increases light output immensely. The higher the light output the more visible the vehicle the LED lightbar units are attached to.
LED lightbar units are rapidly changing and evolving giving us ever more sophisticated and multi-functional units. The different colors, flash patterns, light combinations and fitting options make the lightbars suitable for all kinds of vehicles and all sorts of professions. You will mainly see LED lightbar units fitted to first response vehicles but many other vehicles will have a legitimate and valid use for lightbars. Certainly military vehicles, agricultural vehicles and construction vehicles can all be seen with a lightbar fitted to very good effect.
When you consider the way lighting started on vehicles we have come a long way, and the emergency lighting market does not stand still. Departments and agencies always come up with different requirements and specifications so the market has to respond to that quickly if they want the business. LED lightbar units are here to stay and it’s with good reason. If you stand and watch an emergency vehicle as it approaches you will be struck by how bright and effective the lights are even if the siren isn’t in evidence. Lights draw our eyes and when that light is flashing, we know it can only mean one thing; we need to take some kind of action.
Low profile LED lightbar units are not only more compact but they can actually reduce fuel consumption. A low-level unit will make the vehicle more aerodynamic and streamlined which will reduce drag when the vehicle is moving at high speed. LED light units have many advantages, they don’t break easily. They have a much longer life and they consume far less power than other more traditional lighting. LED lightbars are the future of lighting for emergency vehicles and they help first responders on their way safely.
