Lasik Eye Surgery redefines ophthalmology
Long ago the usual eye diseases were treated with the help of traditional methods like wearing glasses or lenses. Though effective, the results were not ling term in terms of cure and sometimes the patient’s number of lenses would increase, despite wearing spectacles regularly. Furthermore the cure would not prove to be effective for myopia, hyperopia and astigmatism.
With the advent of technology came a procedure called as Lasik Eye Surgery, where laser is used to cure these diseases by performing a surgery based on the images taken using a camera and reproduced in to computer.
The whole procedure is effective and is widely used all across the globe for curing the above mentioned diseases. Though the procedure is complicated, the end results are always good and a success rate of 90% plus has been found under in patients’ undergoing Lasik eye surgery.
The surgery though effective might also have some side effects in the form of Dry Eye, which could lead to deficiency of tears in the eye. Though dry eye is a rare side effect but if not treated properly, it can lead to long term side effects, thereby leading to blurred vision, etc.
The treatment has overall been a boon for patients who have had to rely on old methods for a very long time and could not get a permanent cure from eye related diseases.
