Vauxhall Corsa VXR

The Vauxhall Corsa VXR is considered to be the most powerful Corsa ever produced. Designed to keep up with popular rivals such as the Peugeot 207 GTI, VW Polo GTI, Renault sport Clio 197 and Mini Cooper S, the Corsa VXR carries on the sporting tradition established by the Astra VXr but in a more refined and comfortable package.

It is easy to fault the Astra VXR for being a brash and no-holds-barred car as the Corsa VXR was developed and tested on UK roads to bring out the ideal form of compromise when it comes to suspension tuning. The good news is that the Corsa managed to be sporty, comfortable and quiet at the same time. It manages road undulations with the poise of much expensive machinery but transforms into an agile cornering machine when pushed to the limit.

The 189bhp petrol engine is now made more powerful due to a revised induction system and routed exhaust. This also managed to provide a broad power band all throughout the rev range. The Corsa VXR is also equipped with a snappy throttle feel that earns dividends on the track. Sadly, the same characteristic makes the Corsa VXR a little tricky to drive on city streets.

The Vauxhall Corsa VXR has an over boost function that increases the available torque from 230Nm all the way to 266Nm. This function enabled the Corsa to beat the Golf R32 in a quarter mile sprint. The car is also equipped with strong brakes that seem to resist fade even after miles and miles of repeated abuse.

Perhaps the best thing about the Vauxhall Corsa VXR is the cabin. It gives the driver a sense of confidence due to the unobstructed front view and well-padded front seats. It also helps that this car is capable of providing 31.2mpg when driven sanely. Talk about having your cake and eating it too.
