America’s Funniest Home Videos (currently abbreviated AFV, previously AFHV) returns with more of the amazing and hilarious home videos that have been an American television institution on ABC for 20 seasons. The videos, submitted by viewers, offer big laughs and compete to win big money throughout each season of the show. In addition to the weekly contests with the prize of $10,000, special $100,000 prizes are awarded during the season to video buffs whose wildly funny or unusual video clips are judged favorites by studio audiences. These winners come back at the end of the season to compete for the ultimate grand prize.
Host Tom Bergeron continues to introduce the comic clips that capture the unexpectedly funny things that happen when adults, children, animals and sometimes even inanimate objects are at their spontaneous best. has been on the air since 1989 and seen a number of hosts come and go. Comedian-actor Bob Saget, perhaps, is still a favorite of many of the show’s longtime fans–he was the series’ host during its first seven years. The post-Saget America’s Funniest Home Videos was re-launched a couple of times, with different performers introducing funny video clips sent in by the public. This four-disc set, volume 1, is the first season of the Tom Bergeron years, a comic who took over host duties in 2001.
