Evolution of Metrosexual Indian Male Through Generations

Ever since the inception of life forms on earth, it has always been the masculine species which have been blessed with beauty and looks – the lions, the peacocks, the parrots and many other male members of the animal kingdom enjoy being more majestic and attractive than their female counterparts. This trend was reversed for the first time when human beings evolved and Eve was definitely more desirable than Adam. The forthcoming generations emulated Eve in every way due to which women have always been endowed with grace and beauty while men are supposed to look rough, rugged and muscular.

Many traditional concepts however underwent a change at the turn of the century and our civilization has reached a stage now when it is considered normal for men to appear clean, well groomed and delicate. Wherein perfumes, creams and face masks were women’s domain, nowadays it is common to find such products in a man’s room, cupboard or bathroom. A metrosexual male is characterized by the following traits:

• He is extremely conscious of his looks not only in terms of his physique but his face as well which is clean shaven all the time.
• Like women, these men do not like hair on their bodies and therefore do not hesitate from waxing various parts of their body, sometimes even their chests.
• They have invaded the formerly woman-dominated territory of cosmetics which has prompted many prominent brands to introduce a new range of perfumes for men in addition to other toiletries.
• These men may or may not be muscular but like to project themselves as an epitome of style and class.

This is evidently in sharp contrast to the men of yesteryears who used to take pride in their unkempt looks – in fact the more untidy the man, the more masculine he was assumed to be. It is no wonder then that women are still divided and confused about which type of guy they would prefer to be with. While on one hand metrosexuality promises cleanliness in all aspects, it also poses competition to women who have been used to being appreciated all the time.

True that this new trend in men has its advantages, but many women still prefer the traditional rugged look as it affords them the opportunity to be the damsel in distress who would be rescued by a rough and tough man capable of squashing the bad guys. Men on the other hand seemed to have found a solution to this dilemma by maintaining their rugged looks on the outside while smelling nice up close courtesy of perfumes for men.

The traditional concept of masculinity may never die out and always remain in vogue but women who like to experiment and are not averse to change can always try their luck with the new metrosexual male who douses himself with perfume and looks as perfect as a picture.
